Hanwha awarded €250 million contract to supply Chunmoo systems

Hanwha Aerospace has signed a landmark contract valued at approximately €250 million with the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI) to supply Chunmoo systems.

This strategic acquisition significantly strengthens Estonia’s defense capabilities and deterrence posture amid an evolving regional security environment. It also marks Estonia’s second major defense procurement from Hanwha, following the successful acquisition of K9 self-propelled howitzers.

The signing ceremony was held at the Estonia War Museum in the presence of Hanno Pevkur, Minister of Defence of Estonia; Il-eung Kim, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Estonia; Katri Raudsepp, Deputy Director General of ECDI; Kyung-sung Kang, President & CEO of KOTRA, and Jae-il Son, CEO of Hanwha Aerospace.

The contract provides Estonia with a comprehensive package, which includes Chunmoo launchers, three types of missile systems (CGR-080, CTM-MR, CTM-290), as well as full operational support and training. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027.

In addition, Hanwha Aerospace has committed to an industrial partnership based on terms mutually agreed between Hanwha Aerospace and ECDI. This cooperation will not be a one-time engagement but will progress in multiple phases corresponding to the total value of Estonia’s orders.

Hanwha aims to build strong partnerships with Estonian industry, including technology transfer, local production of selected components, and MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations) support. This approach reflects Hanwha’s commitment to establishing long-term, sustainable industrial cooperation with its European partners.

“This agreement underscores the urgent need for defense solutions that are not only technologically superior but also immediately deployable,” said Jae-il Son, President and CEO of Hanwha Aerospace. “Our priority is to reinforce the security of the Baltic region by leveraging our rapid production capacity to ensure Estonia receives these critical capabilities on schedule.”

“The acquisition of the Chunmoo systems is an essential step in strengthening Estonia’s defense posture,” said Katri Raudsepp, Deputy Director General of ECDI. “We value our close and trusted cooperation with Hanwha Aerospace. This partnership enhances our ability to respond decisively to a rapidly changing security environment.”

Chunmoo is a state-of-the-art multiple rocket launcher system designed for high mobility and rapid, precise firepower. Mounted on a highly mobile 8×8 truck chassis, it can launch a variety of guided rockets, including 239 mm precision munitions, making it a formidable deterrent.
