EDGE Group to Acquire Brazilian Aerospace Firm AKAER

by Aaheli De

EDGE Group has announced an agreement to acquire a 100 percent stake in AKAER, a move set to expand its global engineering capabilities and strengthen its position in advanced aerospace and defence technologies.

The proposed acquisition, subject to regulatory approvals and customary conditions, would provide EDGE with a well-established engineering base in Brazil and access to a highly skilled workforce with more than three decades of experience across the full product lifecycle—from conceptual design to industrialisation. The deal also aims to enhance EDGE’s capabilities in optronics, electro-optic and infrared systems, and space-related technologies.

AKAER has an existing relationship with EDGE, particularly in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) programmes, where it has contributed to development and industrialisation efforts. The transaction is expected to deepen this collaboration while preserving AKAER’s operations, customer relationships, and its status as an Empresa Estratégica de Defesa (EED) in Brazil.

Hamad Al Marar, EDGE Group’s Managing Director and CEO, said: “AKAER brings real engineering depth to EDGE. This is a highly specialised team with three decades of experience delivering complex aerospace programmes, and that expertise strengthens what we can offer across the Group. Our priority is continuity, for AKAER’s people, its programmes and its customers, while building the foundation for long term growth.”

Founded in 1992 and headquartered in São José dos Campos, AKAER has built a strong reputation for delivering complex aerospace engineering programmes. The company has contributed more than 10 million engineering hours across a wide range of global platforms, including Saab’s Gripen NG fighter jet, Turkish Aerospace’s Hürjet trainer, and multiple aircraft programmes from Embraer.

The acquisition aligns with EDGE’s broader strategy to expand its international footprint and build engineering capacity closer to key partners and markets. AKAER will continue to operate from Brazil with local governance, ensuring continuity across its existing programmes and customer base.
