Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has won the prestigious SKOCH Award for Project Akansha at the 108th SKOCH Summit in New Delhi, recognising its commitment to community development through corporate social responsibility.

Implemented by Child Rights and You (CRY) with support from GRSE, Project Akansha focuses on the holistic development of children and adolescents from vulnerable communities in Kolkata’s Munshiganj and Watganj-Hastings areas. The initiative provides supplementary education, life-skills training, self-defence sessions, nutritional support and community engagement to create a safe environment while improving access to education and life skills.

The project has improved school enrolment and retention, strengthened life skills, and strengthened community participation in child protection efforts. It has also created trusted learning spaces while promoting the active involvement of mothers and local stakeholders in safeguarding children’s rights.

The SKOCH Award is among India’s highest independent honours recognising excellence in governance, innovation and social development. This recognition reaffirms GRSE’s commitment to creating sustainable social impact through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that promote education, empowerment and holistic community development.
