The programme builds on ongoing work under the Protected Tactical SATCOM (PTS) Family of Systems, aimed at ensuring reliable communications for U.S. tactical forces operating in increasingly complex threat scenarios. The new prototype will enable scalable, Ka-band satellite communications with advanced anti-jamming capabilities.
The Enhanced PTS-P satellite will feature a Protected Tactical Waveform processor integrated on a GEOStar-3 commercial satellite bus, along with supporting ground systems, launch preparation and on-orbit testing. The system will also incorporate advanced digital processing and cost-effective antenna configurations to enhance performance against electronic threats.
A key aspect of the programme is its modular and flexible architecture, allowing the system to evolve with mission requirements without extensive redesign. This approach supports faster upgrades and long-term cost efficiency while maintaining high levels of performance and security.
According to company officials, the initiative reinforces efforts to provide uninterrupted and secure communications for warfighters, even in highly contested and electronically challenged environments.
The contract highlights a growing emphasis on resilient space-based infrastructure and the role of advanced satellite communications in modern military operations.
