Germany’s defence major Rheinmetall has secured a significant order from Ukraine for long-range artillery ammunition, with the contract valued in the high double-digit millions of euros. The order, which will be recognised in the second quarter of 2026, includes 155mm artillery shells and propellant charges in the low five-figure range.
Manufacturing of the ammunition is already in progress at Rheinmetall Expal Munitions’ facility in Spain, with deliveries scheduled for completion by the first quarter of 2027. The contract underscores continued demand for NATO-standard artillery systems amid evolving operational requirements.
The order comprises ER02A1 B/B projectiles and M203 propellant charges, both already in service with multiple NATO countries. Designed for compatibility across a wide range of 155mm artillery systems, the ammunition offers extended range and high effectiveness in operational environments.
Rheinmetall continues to expand its production footprint to meet rising global demand for large-calibre ammunition. Since 2022, the Düsseldorf-based company has been investing in scaling up existing facilities and establishing new production sites. As part of its long-term strategy, Rheinmetall aims to reach an annual production capacity of around 1.5 million 155mm artillery shells by 2030, reinforcing its position as a leading supplier in the global defence market.
