Within the scope of Spain’s Integrated Advanced Training System, the HÜRJET Jet Trainer has been selected to meet the training aircraft requirements of the Spanish Air and Space Force, and a final procurement agreement has been concluded between the parties.
Under the leadership of the Presidency of Defence Industries of the Republic of Türkiye, an important agreement has been signed for the export of the HÜRJET Jet Trainer, which has been developed with national resources by Turkish Aerospace. The negotiations launched within the framework of HÜRJET’s journey to Spain — proudly carrying the Turkish flag into the skies — have now been concluded with the signing of the official procurement contract.
Discussions between Turkish Aerospace and Airbus had previously been initiated regarding Spain’s jet trainer requirement, and cooperation between the two companies was formalized. During the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) held in July, the partnership between Turkish Aerospace and Airbus was officially established. Following comprehensive technical, operational, and industrial evaluations, mutual consensus was reached across all areas, paving the way for the signing of the final procurement agreement.
Within the scope of the contract, which has a total value of €2.6 billion, it is envisaged that 30 HÜRJET Jet Trainer aircraft will be exported. The aircraft will be manufactured at Turkish Aerospace facilities, with deliveries planned to begin in the last quarter of 2028 and continue through 2036.
With this agreement, HÜRJET — developed through the dedication and expertise of Turkish engineers and technicians — has achieved its first export success, opening the door for Türkiye’s indigenous aviation platforms to the European market. Through this export to Spain, a NATO and European Union member country, HÜRJET will take to the skies of Europe. The agreement not only strengthens the international competitiveness of Türkiye’s defence and aerospace industry, but also marks the beginning of a new era in defence industrial cooperation between Türkiye and Spain.
Commenting on the development, President of Defence Industries Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün stated that this step represents a concrete demonstration of Türkiye’s position as a trusted, preferred and guiding exporter in the global defence industry.
In a statement shared on his social media account regarding the export of HÜRJET, Prof. Dr. Görgün emphasized that Türkiye has moved beyond being merely a supplier and has become a country that is trusted, preferred and capable of shaping global defence markets. He stated:
“Türkiye’s first indigenous jet trainer, HÜRJET, has been officially selected by the Spanish Air and Space Force through a 30-aircraft export package, marking a historic export achievement for our defence industry.
This step is a concrete indicator that Türkiye has reached the position of being a trusted, preferred and guiding exporter in the defence sector.
Within the framework of a program with a total projected value of €2.6 billion, deliveries are planned to begin in 2028.
The signed agreement represents a high value-added, multi-dimensional defence export package encompassing the export of HÜRJET aircraft, an integrated advanced pilot training architecture, ground-based simulation and training systems, maintenance and sustainment infrastructure, and long-term operational support.”
The fact that a jet training aircraft designed and produced with national capabilities will enter the inventory of a European and NATO member country clearly demonstrates the level Türkiye has reached in design, production, systems integration, certification, and sustainability.
With HÜRJET, Türkiye continues to strengthen its position as a country that develops, manufactures, and exports high-technology air platforms, further elevating the scale and quality of its defence exports on the global stage.
Expressing his appreciation, Prof. Dr. Görgün thanked all engineers, technicians, the Turkish Aerospace family, and all stakeholders who contributed to this strategic export achievement.
Under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Türkiye continues to produce with national technology, steadily expand its defence export power, and soar higher in the “Blue Homeland” and across the world.
