Bengaluru-based Ananth Technologies and Digantara, and the Indian Institute of Science will receive AUD 17.6 million (approx. 95 crore INR) funding for joint Australia-India projects under the International Space Investment India (ISI) program.
The Hon Ed Husic, Australian Minister for Industry and Science said ‘Australia and India are enduring strategic partners, and by working together in space we can strengthen our relationship while also delivering outcomes that will benefit our nations and region more broadly.’
The Indian and Australian project partners will develop and deploy technologies to mitigate space debris, collect high resolution data on carbon emissions, and improve satellite connectivity. Outcomes of these projects will benefit both countries and our region.
The projects will include Space Machines Company, Skykraft and LatConnect60 from Australia, Skyroot from Hyderabad, and additional support from NSIL, ISRO’s National Remote Sensing Centre and the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology in New Delhi.
International Space Investment India (ISI) program
ISI projects support Australian and Indian organisations, working in partnership and at the cutting edge of technology, to deliver critical space-related products and services.
Australia and India have a long history of collaboration in space, including Australia helping track India’s historic landing on the South Pole of the Moon in 2023 and supporting its upcoming Gaganyaan human space flight mission. The ISI program grows our business-to-business ties. Projects funded through the ISI program will deepen these ties and support Australian businesses to access international opportunities and supply chains.
Australia’s relationship with Karnataka is led by the Australian Consulate-General in Bengaluru, which commenced operations in July 2023. The Consulate-General is focusing on deepening Australia’s ties to India’s vibrant innovation and technology ecosystem, as well as significant biotech, aerospace and defence industries, India’s national space agency, and leading education and research institutions in the states of Karnataka and Telangana.
