In order to strengthen the security system and enhance passenger convenience, a new In-Line Baggage Screening System was inaugurated at AAI’s Srinagar International Airport. B. V. R. Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir inaugurated the new facility in presence of Shri Santosh Dhoke, Airport Director Srinagar International Airport, District Authorities and officials of CISF, Airlines, AAICLAS& J&K Police.

In-Line Baggage Screening System (ILBS) with CTX 9800 DSI (Computed Tomography) scanners has been commissioned the cost of Rs. 12.67 crore. This In- Line hold baggage system (HBS) is integrated with airport Baggage Handling System (BHS) to provide a complete hold baggage processing and screening system.

The existing registered X-ray machines installed at check in area to screen registered baggage are in stand-alone mode. Stand-alone machines occupy space at departure lounges and also cause big queues, which disrupt passenger flow during peak hours. Keeping in view the security, multi-level CT-EDS based in-line detection system is installed at Srinagar Airport. Now, passengers will not be required to scan their registered baggage before dropping at the check-in counters, resulting in faster passenger processing, minimum queuing time, and less congestion at check-in area.

The advanced screening system also include an explosive detection system which can scan baggage 360° and create CT-Slice with 3D image to detect explosive material in baggage. The scanner is capable of handling up to 1800 bags per hour, making the baggage screening process faster and more efficient.

Arvind Singh, Chairman, AAI said “With an objective of streamlining the security screening process at one of the leading airport of Northern India, the facility has been installed at Srinagar International Airport. AAI has initiated the process of commissioning this system at its airports in phases. Apart from Srinagar Airport, Chennai, Goa, Kolkata, Ahmedabad(Domestic), Lucknow, Varanasi, Jaipur, Trivandrum and Calicut airports are equipped with the In-Line Baggage Screening System.”

In-Line Baggage Screening System (ILBS) is a latest & superior technology and is being used all over the world at major airports for screening hold baggage. With the addition of this best-in-class facility, passengers will now be able to save time in check-in process.
